About Us

We are passionate about using our creativity to drive community centered solutions underpinned by 3 core values…

Coffee Bean

Prioritise safety

We prioritise safety with considered language and access to immediate help and counselling at all of our shows

Coffee Bean

inclusive by design

We prioritise inclusivity by designing and adapting our approach to work with community and cultural values, rather than against them

Coffee Bean

survivor centric

We focus on the autonomy and agency of survivors by using real stories, but told in a way of their choosing

Our theory of change

Within the South Asian community, talking openly about these issues can run the risk of repercussions. Mainstream reporting pathways can be seen as a betrayal of perceived family values. As a result, attendance at support services is low and culturally specific support systems remain underfunded. The rates of domestic violence in our community has become severely underreported despite regular news reports.

“Continue doing these events! What a great way to share a complex topic.”

THE CHARITY

INDIAN SUBCONTINENT CRISIS AND SUPPORT AGENCY

Behind Closed Doors donates all of its profits to our partners, the ICSA (Indian (sub-Cont) Crisis & Support Agency) are the first NGO for the South Asian Community in Australia. They are dedicated to assisting people of Indian Subcontinent origin who are in crisis through advocacy and case management services.  Our show and associated services like the Indian subcontinent Crisis Association (ICSA), provide powerful voice and safe pathways for those who want to end domestic and family violence within the community, as well as any other adjacent communities experiencing similar problems.

How we’re supported

We are completely funded by donations and ticket sales. If you would like to help fund our next show click the donate button below.

MEDIA APPEARANCES

It’s a performance that has a genuine capacity to influence change within South Asian communities and public debate more broadly.  I sincerely hope it’s not the last time it’s performed.

Using music, dance, lyricism, fashion and visual art with an all-female band, the one-hour live performance explores the ways abuse can manifest in South Asian families, with the hope of sparking conversations about raising awareness and taking action, free of judgment and shame.
